Functional Movement at Athletic Edge Chiropractic

Function Movement at Athletic Edge Chiropractic

Our goal is to help improve how you function, feel and perform by establishing quality movement and stability throughout the entire body.

No matter your age, injury or performance goal, we at Athletic Edge Chiropractic can help you get back in the game, stay in the game and dominate the game. Even if the only game you play is the game of life, we can help you own it.

We are happy to work with you in office during our scheduled office hours during the week, on Saturdays by appointment or on location at your home, sporting event or any other event you might like to have us present for. Just contact us and we would be happy to let you know our schedule of availability!

Active Release Techniques at Athletic Edge Chiropractic

Active Release Techniques at Athletic Edge Chiropractic

Active Release Techniques (ART) at Athletic Edge Chiropractic DFW

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

How do overuse conditions occur?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What is an ART treatment like?
Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

What is the history of Active Release Techniques?
ART has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients’ symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients’ problems. He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART.

Meet Dr. Hart DFW

Meet Dr. Hart DFW

I am a Dallas native, lifelong athlete and passionate sports fan. I attended Bishop Lynch High School where I discovered a love for track and field. It was during my high school track and field days that I was originally diagnosed with the muscular condition that would eventually lead me down the path of chiropractic, but, that is a story for another day. I went on to run track for Tarleton State University my freshman year of college before transferring to Texas A&M and graduating in 2008 with a degree in Sports Management. During my time at Texas A&M I ran triathlons and participated year round in intramurals and city league soccer. I started undergraduate at Parker College of Chiropractic in January of 2009 and served as the Parker women’s soccer captain for 2 years. I have played with the North Texas Soccer Association since I returned to Dallas . I am currently training for the Dallas Half Marathon in December and have ambitions to become an Ironman within the next 3 years.

I am not only a sports fan, but, also a sports nerd. I love to read about the mechanics of sports and have developed a passion for performance improvement and developing strong functional movement and solid movement mechanics in all of my patients. I love all sports and some of my favorite places in the world include Kyle Field, the Ballpark in Arlington, and my parent’s couch where I have watched some of the greatest games of my lifetime.

What to Expect from Athletic Edge and Dr. Hart:

I have developed a treatment experience based on the goals of improving patient function, building solid movement mechanics and increasing quality of life by improving your body’s performance and function. I do not chase pain as this method rarely leads you to the cause of your condition, however, pain relief is often a side effect of improved function. On your first visit you can expect to have your movement mechanics screened, your presenting complaints thoroughly evaluated, a full neurological and musculo-skeletal exam, postural evaluation and a full treatment. Standard treatments include Active Release Technique, Chiropractic Adjustments, Rock Tape (Kinesiology taping) and corrective and therapeutic exercises. Additional treatments that you may experience during your visit include: graston therapy, ultrasound, e stim and spinal decompression.

My goal is to help my patients reach their goals. I have combined these treatments because I feel my patients get a complete picture of what is causing the problem and how to improve upon it. Initial visits will run between 60-90 minutes and follow up visits will vary from 30-45 minutes. I feel it is important to spend more time with my patients to ensure that they are well versed in what we are doing, why we are doing it and how they can continue to improve outside of the office.

I will be posting to this blog at least once a week and will be making an individual post on each of our services so you can learn more about them. Please feel free to comment with blog topic ideas or any questions you may have. I look forward to your feedback and wish you all a wonderful rest of the week! Thank you for your time an interest!

Infrared Sauna is an effective tool for Natural Healing & Prevention to get you moving & improving!

Infrared saunas are an effective tool for natural healing and prevention. Infrared light has the ability to penetrate human tissue which in turn produces a host of anti-aging health benefits making infrared saunas one of the “hottest” therapies for overall healthier living. If you want to get yourself back into balance, an infrared sauna may be the ticket to achieving your wellness goals.

Watch the video then call (214) 883-9550 to schedule your session today!

Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal & stay healthy. Far infrared sauna benefits the body by heating it directly causing a rise in core temperature resulting in a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside.

Unlike traditional saunas which operate at extremely harsh temperatures, infrared is a gentle, soothing and therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation and improved sleep. Infrared sauna benefits include therapy that helps you relax while receiving an invigorating deep tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed after each session.

Lower Blood Pressure

Infrared saunas induce a deep sweat to make the heart pump faster, which in turn increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure and helps circulation. Scientific evidence shows the infrared sauna benefits using an infrared sauna a couple times a week lowers blood pressure.

Anti-Aging & Skin Purification

The near infrared wavelength (sometimes referred to as Red Light Therapy) is the most effective wavelength for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Near infrared treatments stimulate collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone.

Cell Health

Near infrared therapy stimulates the circulatory system and more fully oxygenate the body’s cells. Better blood circulation means more toxins flow from the cellular level to the skin’s surface to improve cell health, aid in muscle recovery and strengthen the immune system.

Weight Loss

Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.

Pain Relief

Infrared heat penetrates tissue, joints, and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and pains to chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Pain management professionals incorporate infrared heat therapy into treatment plans to decrease pain and muscle spasms and to speed up recovery time.

Improved Circulation

Heating the muscles with infrared rays produces an increase in blood flow similar to that seen during exercise. Regular infrared sauna use—especially in the mid infrared range—can significantly stimulate blood flow up to twice the normal rate.

Wound Healing

Scientific research has concluded that near infrared therapy greatly enhances the skin’s healing process by promoting faster cell regeneration and human tissue growth. Human cell growth increases to repair wounds and prevent infection.

Check this out from Dr. Oz & Oprah…
The next life extension tool that Dr. Oz wheels onto Oprah’s stage can help you burn 700 calories…without lifting a finger.

Dr. Oz says his in-laws introduced him to the infrared sauna, which is slightly different than a normal sauna. “It makes the same rays that come from the sun and filters out the UV radiation, so it only gives you the infrared radiation,” he says. “That radiation that’s infrared goes a little bit into your skin so, without heating you up and the external environment too much, it heats the body up.”

After a few minutes in the sauna, Oprah says she’s starting to feel the heat. Dr. Oz says the high temperature helps lower blood pressure and increase blood circulation. “It gets your heart to beat faster, and it burns calories,” Dr. Oz says. “It raises your metabolism a little bit, and also when you sweat, you sweat out toxins through the skin.”
